Role Overview:

You’ll take ownership of the reliability, performance, and governance of Moneybase’s core databases ensuring that data remains accurate, auditable, and available 24/7. You’ll work closely with Engineering, DevOps, and Compliance to design resilient, secure, and high-performing database environments that scale with our products and regulatory commitments. This is a hands-on role for someone who combines technical depth with an automation-first mindset.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administer, monitor, and optimise MSSQL production and development databases.

  • Design and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery strategies on cloud environments

  • Implement and validate backup, recovery, and failover procedures that meet strict RPO/RTO targets.

  • Tune query performance, indexing, and schema design for high-volume transactional systems.

  • Strengthen data security and access controls, including encryption, masking, and audit logging in line with PSD2/GDPR.

  • Partner with DevOps to improve observability, implementing metrics, alerting, and incident response dashboards.

  • Automate database tasks and health checks through scripting (Python/Bash/T-SQL) to reduce manual effort and downtime.

  • Collaborate with developers through Git-based workflows to review database changes and promote best practices.

  • Maintain clear documentation and runbooks to support scalability and operational excellence.

Job requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in database administration or reliability engineering.

  • Advanced hands-on expertise in MSSQL in production environments.

  • Proven experience with HA/DR architectures, replication, and automated failover.

  • Solid knowledge of query optimisation, indexing, partitioning, and archiving strategies.

  • Experience with cloud-managed databases (Azure preferred)

  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (Datadog).

  • Scripting proficiency (Bash, Python, or SQL) and experience automating operational workflows.

  • Excellent documentation habits and a collaborative, ownership-driven mindset.

  • Seven plus years working as a SQL Server DBA or Database Engineer with strong performance tuning results in production

  • Expert T SQL including writing, reviewing, and tuning complex queries and procedures

  • Strong with execution plan analysis, wait statistics, and Query Store

  • Proven work with Azure SQL Database or Managed Instance including scaling and geo redundancy

  • High availability and recovery design and operations with clear recovery objectives

  • Security in depth for finance using encryption at rest and in transit, auditing, access reviews, and secret management

  • Monitoring design using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics with KQL and experience setting meaningful alerts

  • Experience with Hyperscaling


Nice to Have:

  • Experience supporting financial or regulated systems.

  • Microsoft certification or equivalent track record
