Role Overview:

The Database Architect designs, builds, and governs the organization’s database systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, high-performing, and aligned with business goals. They create data models and standards, optimize performance, enforce security and compliance, and guide engineering teams in implementing reliable, future-ready data solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Define database standards, naming conventions, and structures.

  • Create and maintain logical and physical data models (ERDs, schema diagrams).

  • Ensure data models support business requirements, scalability, and long-term growth.

  • Design overall database architecture, including partitioning, sharding, indexing, replication, and storage strategies.

  • Analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries and indexing strategies.

  • Guide developers on efficient and secure database access patterns.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI.

  • Recommend improvements to database infrastructure and best practices.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues.

  • Support database migrations, upgrades, and deployments.

  • Provide expert technical guidance and leadership to the engineering team.

Job requirements

  • 7+ years working as a SQL Server DBA or Database Engineer with strong performance tuning results in production

  • Advanced hands-on expertise in MSSQL in production environments.

  • Proven experience with HA/DR architectures, replication, and automated failover.

  • Solid knowledge of query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and archiving strategies.

  • Experience with cloud-managed databases (Azure preferred)

  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (Datadog).

  • Scripting proficiency using Powershell and experience automating operational workflows.

  • Excellent documentation habits and a collaborative, ownership-driven mindset.

  • Expert T SQL including writing, reviewing, and tuning complex queries and procedures

  • Strong with execution plan analysis, wait statistics, and Query Store

  • High availability and recovery design and operations with clear recovery objectives

  • Security in depth for finance using encryption at rest and in transit, auditing, access reviews, and secret management

  • Monitoring design using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics with KQL and experience setting meaningful alerts


Nice to Have:

  • Experience supporting financial or regulated systems.

  • Microsoft certification or equivalent track record
