Summary of Position:
Lead and oversee the client onboarding process, including due diligence, screening, and preparation of Customer Risk Assessments.
Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely updates of client files, including Beneficial Ownership confirmations, in line with regulatory standards.
Review and assess complex structures, high-risk clients, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) cases, providing clear recommendations to the MLRO.
Support the implementation and enhancement of the firm’s Risk-Based Approach (RBA), ensuring alignment with business growth and regulatory expectations.
Responsible for the preparation of Internal reporting of any Suspicious Activity/Transaction Reports (SAR/STR), including drafting internal investigation summaries where required.
Maintain robust systems and databases, ensuring all AML/CFT and compliance-related information and records are accurate and readily accessible.
Act as a key liaison with corporate clients, providing guidance, handling escalations, and ensuring compliance-related requests are addressed effectively.
Assist MLRO to prepare AML/CFT compliance updates and reports at quarterly Board Meetings.
Assist MLRO to develop, implement, and continuously update AML/CFT and regulatory compliance policies and procedures to ensure alignment with evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
Assist MLRO for the preparation and completion of the Risk Evaluation Questionnaire (REQ) and other regulator-driven submissions.
Assist MLRO to manage regulatory engagement, including preparing for on-site inspections, desk reviews, and responding to requests from local regulators.
Conduct and/or oversee client and investor periodic screening, including updates issued by the Sanctions Monitoring Board and the Asset Recovery Bureau.
Monitor, assess, and update jurisdictional risk ratings, ensuring proactive adjustments in line with changes in risk factors.
Conduct and supervise periodic and ad-hoc reviews of existing clients, ensuring all due diligence documentation is accurate and up to date.
Assist MLRO for the AML/CFT and compliance regulatory developments, advising senior management and the Board of Directors on the impact of new requirements.
Assist the submission of regulatory reports, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely filing.
Drive continuous improvement by reviewing and updating compliance and AML/CFT policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Provide support in the preparation of Board meeting packs, including the compilation and presentation of relevant compliance and corporate data, drafting administrative and management reports, and coordinating corporate governance documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
Undertake any additional duties as assigned by MLRO, senior management, contributing to the overall governance and risk management framework of the organisation.
Assist the MLRO in addressing urgent client queries, ensuring timely and accurate responses, particularly during the MLRO’s absence.
Job requirements
2–5 years of experience in AML/CFT or compliance within financial services in Malta.
Good knowledge of Maltese AML/CFT regulations and regulatory expectations.
Experience with KYC, Customer Risk Assessments, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
Familiarity with sanctions screening and ongoing monitoring processes.
Experience assisting with regulatory reporting and internal investigations is an asset.
Strong analytical and organisational skills with high attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while supporting the MLRO and senior management.
Relevant qualification (e.g., ICA, ACAMS or equivalent) considered an advantage.
